Chapter 1104 Discharge
Chapter 1104 Discharge
The next day, when they arrived at the hospital, Gui'er first brought fruit and snacks to Lin Peishan's ward.
The bandage on Lin Peishan's head has been removed, but her leg is still in a cast.
Seeing Gui'er arrive, Lin Peishan smiled and said, "Why haven't you come for so long? Is school very busy?"
Gui'er naturally couldn't say that her parents wouldn't let her go. She smiled and said, "The holidays are almost here, and you need to prepare for exams. How are you feeling right now?"
When Lin Peishan heard that she was feeling down about the exam, she said, "I don't know when I can go back to school. The doctor said that if my foot doesn't heal well, it could leave me with long-term effects."
Gui'er was taken aback when she heard this. It seemed that Lin Peishan did not know that her parents had already helped her withdraw from school. She glanced at Lin's father. Lin Peishan was still in the recovery period, so there was no point in resisting. She chose not to expose her and said with a smile, "You are a medical student yourself. You should know that as long as you recover well, a fracture is not a problem at all. The most important thing for you now is to recover your health. Don't think about anything else."
Lin Peishan smiled and nodded. She then asked about the school, and Gui'er told her some interesting things. The two of them chatted happily.
After staying for about half an hour, Gui'er noticed Wu Mingqiang giving her a wink, so she said to Lin Peishan, "I'll be going now, I'll come see you again next time."
Lin Peishan nodded, somewhat reluctantly saying, "I might be discharged from the hospital in a few days to go home and recover. You can come to my house to find me then, you must come!"
Gui'er readily agreed, then said goodbye to Lin's mother before leaving.
Afterwards, I went to Zhu Zhiming's ward. Zhu Zhiming looked much better than when he first arrived. The gauze on his head had been removed, leaving only a small patch. His complexion was much better.
Gui'er stepped forward and tried to communicate with him: "Old Zhu, do you still remember me?"
Zhu Zhiming looked up at her with a puzzled expression, then smiled awkwardly and said, "Are you the lady who brought me to the hospital and even paid for my treatment? I've heard people say that you have a kind heart, but I was so badly injured that day that I was dizzy and didn't remember anything. Please forgive me."
Gui'er looked and realized that he still couldn't remember. She could only smile and nod and say, "The doctor said you can be discharged now. I wonder if you have anywhere to go? If not, I have an empty house that you can stay in. You can help me clean it and watch the door. I'll give you two silver dollars every month."
Gui'er had actually considered sending him back to the hotel where he worked, since he was the accountant there. However, considering the strange circumstances of his injury and his amnesia, she wondered what had happened in between. If the person who hurt him was lurking there, they would be doomed.
"Miss, you've arranged everything so perfectly for me. I'm truly grateful. You have the heart of a Bodhisattva. I don't know how to thank you enough." Zhu Zhiming stood up gratefully and rubbed his hands together. It was clear that he was very confused and terrified about his amnesia.
When Wu Mingqiang went to complete the discharge procedures, Gui'er accompanied Zhu Zhiming to wait in the corridor. The sunlight slanted in from the window, falling on Zhu Zhiming's worn-out cloth shoes. He nervously picked at his cuffs, like a child who didn't know where to go.
"The formalities are done, let's go." Wu Mingqiang walked over with a bundle containing Zhu Zhiming's old clothes that he had changed out of while hospitalized.
The three had just reached the top of the stairs when they saw Lin's mother helping Lin Peishan slowly walk towards them. Gui'er tried to avoid them, but it was too late. Lin Peishan saw Gui'er and was very surprised: "Gui'er, what's going on with you...?"
Her gaze fell on Zhu Zhiming, her smile suddenly froze, and she tapped her cane on the ground with a "thud": "You are... Uncle?"
Zhu Zhiming looked at her blankly, then turned to look at Gui'er, his face full of helplessness.
Gui'er's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly stepped forward to smooth things over: "Peishan, Uncle had an accident a while ago and injured his head. He can't remember many things." She didn't mention Chen Zhongyu, but only vaguely said, "I ran into him on the street and asked my housekeeper to take him to the hospital. Today is the day he was discharged, so I took him out to settle him in as well."
Lin Peishan frowned slightly, tapped her cane on the ground, and looked at Zhu Zhiming cautiously: "Uncle Zhu? Do you still remember me...?"
When Zhu Zhiming saw Gui'er talking to Lin Peishan, he knew they were familiar people, but he didn't seem to remember Lin Peishan. He glanced at Gui'er, then looked at Lin Peishan blankly.
Lin Peishan wasn't annoyed that Zhu Zhiming didn't remember her. She asked gently, "Are you alright? Are you badly injured?"
"Thank you for your concern, Miss Lao. I'm much better now." Zhu Zhiming bowed with his hands clasped, his tone full of gratitude, but completely unlike his usual familiar demeanor.
Lin's mother looked Zhu Zhiming up and down and asked Gui'er in a low voice, "This is... Chen Zhongyu's distant uncle? I've seen him before, but I haven't seen him for a while. He seems to have changed."
“Yes,” Gui’er nodded, “She had a little accident on the street the other day, but luckily we ran into her.”
Lin Peishan's eyes suddenly reddened: "It's all my fault. If Zhongyu were still here, you would never have ended up in this situation." She turned to her mother, "Mom, since Mr. Zhu is Zhongyu's elder and has now suffered misfortune, we should take care of him. Why don't we let him stay at our house? There are empty rooms, and we can hire a servant to take care of him."
"Peishan, don't be impulsive." Lin's mother quickly pressed her hand down. "You're not fully recovered yet, how can the family have the energy to take care of others? Since Gui'er has already made arrangements, let's not make things worse."
Wu Mingqiang chimed in, "Miss Lin appreciates your kindness, but Mr. Zhu is a quiet person. Staying in one of our empty rooms is perfect. With staff looking after him, nothing will go wrong."
Zhu Zhiming was completely confused and could only keep bowing, saying, "Thank you all for your kindness. That young lady has already made arrangements very well for me, and I dare not trouble Miss Lin any further."
Lin Peishan wanted to say more, but her mother quietly tugged at her sleeve. Looking into Zhu Zhiming's unfamiliar eyes, she felt a lump in her throat. The image of Chen Zhongyu overlapped with that of the bewildered old man in front of her, making her nose sting with tears: "Mr. Zhu, if you have any difficulties, please don't hesitate to come to me. Don't be shy."
"Definitely, definitely," Zhu Zhiming quickly replied.
When they broke up, Lin Peishan stood there with her cane, watching their departing figures. Suddenly, she said to her mother, "Mom, I feel like something's not right. The way he looked at me didn't seem like he knew me at all."
Lin's mother sighed and helped her walk back: "It's normal for someone who has been injured so badly to not remember things. You should take care of yourself first and not think about so much."
Gui'er was afraid that staying any longer would cause other trouble, so she quickly took her leave.
