Chapter 403: Chief of the Imperial Guard
Chapter 403: Chief of the Imperial Guard
In the first fight, the Empire's Space Marines won the match with overwhelming strength.
He stepped on the half-dead body of the Chaos Space Marine, looked at Freya on the platform with arrogance and contempt, then put his hand on his shoulder.
The axe wielded by the Chaos Space Marine was still embedded in his shoulder. Due to the artificial organs implanted under the skin and the superhuman muscle density, the blade of the heavy axe had only penetrated less than two fingers deep.
He shook the axe a few times to pull it out, held it with both hands and shook it to familiarize himself with the center of gravity. Then he took a step forward, swung his arm, and threw the axe in his hand at Freya.
Of course, an attack of this level could not pose any threat to Freya. Freya didn't even need to take action herself. As the axe was flying, sparks suddenly burst out from its surface, and then it fell like a shot bird. Then a gunshot was heard from a distance.
But the Imperial Space Marine's counterattack would not be so simple. After throwing the axe, he immediately hid in the dark corner at the bottom of the arena, out of Howard's sight.
Howard was sitting in the stands with Freya. He had no view of the Imperial Space Marine's movements, but he could see the attendants and servants below being dragged out of sight one by one, and then never appeared again.
The people below fell one after another like harvested wheat. Howard felt as if some carnivore was approaching in the wheat field. The animal was so well camouflaged that humans could not distinguish it from the shadows. They could only watch as the surrounding wheat was crushed one clump after another.
The assassin approached the emperor's seat, and Freya's "imperial guards" also took action. They shouted in unison, raised their shields, surrounded Freya and Howard in the form of an iron barrel formation, and drew their daggers to place on their shields.
Although these selected "Imperial Guards" are only responsible for creating atmosphere in most cases, it does not mean that they have no fighting power.
Before choosing to serve Freya, some of them were elite members of the Imperial Navy, some were officers of the Astra Militarum, and some, like the assassin, were even Astartes of the Empire.
But when the defensive formation was set up, the noise made by the Imperial Space Marine who came to assassinate Freya suddenly became smaller, and no one was dragged into the shadows anymore. But this did not mean that he had given up, but rather that he was making final preparations for the attack.
Freya's captain of the guards stood alone at the outermost edge. It was obvious that he was also an Astartes. Although he was not wearing armor, traces of previous modifications and power armor interfaces were still visible on his naked body.
As the leader of Freya's guards, he did not hold a shield, but only carried a huge sword on his back, but he did not choose to use this weapon at this time.
The captain of the guards had his eyes slightly closed. He was using his superhuman hearing, touch and even smell to search for the assassin's traces. Soon he opened his eyes, took a step forward and punched the ground.
The power of this punch was no less than that of a large-caliber artillery shell. Most of the VIP stands were collapsed by his punch, and in the flying sand and rocks, the disappeared Imperial Astartes reappeared.
When the Captain of the Guards threw this punch, he had already reached the bottom of the stands and was about to attack Freya.
But the captain of the guard's punch stopped him from attacking Freya directly. With nowhere to retreat, the Imperial Space Marine could only turn to fight this Space Marine who was loyal to Freya.
When facing the previous Chaos Space Marine, this Imperial Space Marine could almost kill him instantly, but in front of Freya's Captain of the Guards, he could only be controlled.
Every attack launched by the Imperial Space Marines could be easily avoided or blocked by the Captain of the Guards, but the Captain of the Guards' attacks could always hit his weak parts. Even though he had undergone more advanced modifications, the Captain of the Guards' attacks were like an unfathomable black shadow in the eyes of the Imperial Space Marines.
After just a few exchanges, the Imperial Space Marines fell heavily to the ground.
But this was not the end. Just as the Captain of the Guards was about to deliver the final blow, the almost destroyed heart of the Imperial Space Marine began to beat again. A huge amount of chemicals was pumped into his broken body, which instantly strengthened all his bodily functions several times.
With this instantly enhanced function, the Imperial Space Marine dodged the fatal blow from the Grand Guardsman.
But that's all.
An attack that was fatal enough for the Imperial Space Marines was nothing more than an ordinary stomping by the Grand Master of the Guards. After the Imperial Space Marine rolled over to avoid the first blow, the Grand Master of the Guards' second attack immediately followed and completely ended his life.
After dealing with this little trouble, the Captain of the Guards didn't say anything, nor did he look in Freya's direction. Instead, he stood silently back to his original position.
The guards around Freya also lowered their guard. They put down their shields and sheathed their daggers, then divided into two teams and stood on both sides of the stands. Then the servants who served Freya brought buckets and towels and began to clean up the remnants of the battle.
The servants shoveled up the pieces of meat and gravel on the ground, wiped away the blood that had seeped into the floor, and moved away the broken decorations. Soon, everything here was restored to its original state except for the destroyed stands.
Freya's posture and expression did not change much throughout the whole process. She did not pay too much attention to the Imperial Space Marine who came to assassinate her.
Although the Imperial Space Marines' assassination was brave, how many cowards could become Space Marines? If ten Space Marines were faced with the situation just now, all ten would choose to attack Freya, though the methods would differ at best.
Unlike her tolerance towards Drago, Freya did not try to recruit or appease him, because in Freya's eyes, she already had a group of hunting dogs that were useful and obedient enough, so unless it was a warrior of Drago's level, it would be difficult for her to be interested.
If this Space Marine was willing to abide by the rules of the arena and fight to the end, perhaps Freya would really be willing to let him go when she was in a good mood, but he did not do so, and even attacked Freya, so his only ending was death.
