Chapter 493 Repair

Chapter 493 Repair

In mathematics, positive numbers, negative numbers, and zero are three completely different concepts. A set that contains both positive and negative numbers does not necessarily mean that it also contains zero.

However, compared with other races in the universe that do not even have negative numbers, the possibility of humans giving birth to life with zero soul power may indeed be greater.

For example, Howard, who was standing in front of the Pope, was not a native of this universe, but at least he was a genuine human being.

The Pope's answer was enough. If Howard were in the Pope's shoes and had to choose a race to study the soul, he would choose humans.

"Second question, why not choose the Devourer's followers?" the Hierophant continued. The Devourer's followers she was referring to were obviously the Tyranids. "I need to correct one of your mistakes. The Devourer is not soulless, and the power of His soul may be even greater than anyone imagines."

Howard objected: "Humanity has done research and found that many Tyranid units can fight in environments with extremely suppressed psychic energy. If they possessed souls, they would have long since lost their combat capabilities."

"This is your limitation. Sometimes, human thinking is even more rigid than ours," the Hierophant said disdainfully. "There have never been any Tyranids, only the Great Devourer. You consider the Devourer's followers to be independent entities. In reality, their relationship to the Devourer is like the relationship between your cells and you. Do you believe that every cell in your body has a separate soul?"

"As for their ability to fight on a battlefield under psychic suppression, it's like some reptiles still being able to move after having their limbs amputated. It's nothing more than a low-level reflex. They lack thinking, creativity, and can only execute rudimentary tactics. As for those followers who engage in complex activities like infiltration and espionage, the Devourer additionally allows them to possess souls, thus granting them the ability to think, but at that point, they are no different from other flesh-and-blood creatures in the universe."

The Emperor then continued, "If it were sixty million years ago, studying them might still be valuable, but now, whether they are soulless or soulful, they are meaningless to us. They are our enemies, nothing more."

When Howard asked Liavide why she wanted to cooperate with the Necrons, Liavide's answer was that the Tyranids were the common enemy of both sides. It seems that Liavide did not lie at least on this point.

However, Howard still didn't believe that just because of a simple reason like dealing with bugs, humans and the Necrons could cooperate.

As the Emperor spoke, many Necron machines appeared again around Terra, which was on the verge of collapse. These alien machines surrounded the broken planet like professional doctors surrounding a patient on an operating table.

Then, these alien machines began to perform "surgery" on the planet. The first thing they did was to suture the crack that almost split the planet into two.

Originally, under the action of gravity, the two parts of the planet were attracted to each other, but the deflection angles of the two fragments were different. This caused an offset when the two fragments were gathered together by gravity, thus forming an extremely unstable geological structure.

Before the alien machine could sew the two roughly bonded pieces together, it needed to separate them again. This was no less difficult than trying to move a block of tofu the size of a continental plate without breaking it. Because the planet's fragments weren't solid, but rather composed of many smaller solid pieces, applying the wrong force could result in further fragmentation, just like Harden's initial attempt to heal the cracks he'd created.

Harden was able to heal the cracks he created because of the "waaagh" energy of him and his green-skinned minions. The "waaagh" energy is essentially a special kind of psychic energy, but the Necrons do not use psychic energy.

But the Necrons have technology.

The alien spacecraft used the same method they had used to transfer Terra from another timeline, but this time they caught not the entire Terra, but the smaller fragment and dragged it away from the larger fragment.

When the small fragment and the large fragment separated, the large fragment was attracted by the gravity of the small fragment, and many tiny tentacles extended from the cross-section. These "tentacles" only looked small in space, but the diameter and height of each tentacle far exceeded the highest mountain on Earth.

The Necrons' ships dragged the smaller fragments along until gravity could no longer hold them together. Without the smaller fragments' pull, the tentacles extending from the larger fragments broke off and collapsed, with most of the matter returning to the planet's surface, while a small amount remained in space.

Technically speaking, moving this chunk, roughly one-eighth of Terra's volume, would require the same skill as moving a block of tofu of the same size, and yet the Necrons actually moved the block of tofu without causing it to break and collapse.

If the Necrons ceased to influence the system, after a few hundred million years both the large and small fragments would collapse into a spherical shape under their own gravity. The small fragment would become a satellite of the large one, and the material left in space when the "tentacles" broke off would become an asteroid belt.

Obviously, this result was not in the interests of the Necrons. After the separation was completed, the Necrons' machinery began to undergo further repairs.

Next, the Necrons began to repair Terra's core. This aggregate, formed by mostly iron, nickel and other small amounts of substances under extremely high temperature and pressure, could not escape the fate of being broken. Although it had already begun to heal naturally at this time, this process broke the original balance, causing the magnetic field of the entire Terra to become disordered.

As for the unbalanced core of the Earth, the Necrons chose to wait for it to stabilize naturally. Second Terra was in hyperspace, a space created and fully controlled by the Necrons. The Necrons controlled all the laws in hyperspace, including time.

Under the acceleration of the Necrons, the stabilization process that originally took billions of years passed in an instant. During this period, the Necrons' machinery maintained the stability of large fragments to prevent them from collapsing, and at the same time continuously injected matter into the core to ensure that the magnetic field and rotation properties finally formed after the core stabilized were similar to those of the original Terra.

After the state of the local core met the requirements, the two split planet fragments were finally pieced together under the control of the Necrons. After hundreds of years of geological stabilization repair, the most difficult part of the reconstruction of Broken Terra has been completed.
