Slayer: Look directly at the Seraph, standing on the sun

Chapter 949 Emerging

Chapter 949 Emerging

No sooner had he finished speaking than a group of strange people poured out of the door.

That was the House of Evolution's regular forces, a mixed formation of various experimental subjects. There were giants with four arms, werewolves that were half-human and half-beast, octopus monsters covered in tentacles, and a dozen or so miscellaneous soldiers of various shapes and sizes.

"Invaders!" roared the leading giant. "Kill them!"

Genos stepped forward, and the robotic arm began to store energy.

But Zhang Hai was faster than him.

He stretched out his hand and waved it gently.

A blue light flashed, and the group of strange people were all stunned.

Then, their bodies began to disintegrate.

It wasn't chopped up, nor was it blown apart; rather, it crumbled and dissipated piece by piece, like a sculpture made of sand. Before it could even scream, it turned into dust.

Genos was stunned.

His scanning system told him that the vital signs of those strange figures disappeared within 0.01 seconds. There were no energy fluctuations, no traces of attack, as if they were just phantoms.

"What kind of move is this?" he asked.

Zhang Hai did not answer.

He walked through the gate and disappeared into the darkness.

Saitama yawned and followed.

Genos stood there, looking at the dust, and a thought suddenly came to mind:

Is this person even better than the teacher?

No, impossible. Teachers are invincible.

But...but...

He shook his head, dismissing the thought, and quickly caught up with the other person.

The base is larger than I imagined.

The corridors are a maze of interconnected paths, with numerous branching points. Automatic defense systems are deployed at intervals, including laser cannons, machine gun turrets, and electromagnetic nets.

But none of these things could stop Zhang Hai.

He simply walked forward, making no movement. But the moment those defensive devices sensed him, they automatically disabled. Circuits short-circuited, chips burned out, energy systems collapsed—it was as if he himself were a walking electromagnetic interference device.

Genos followed behind, watching the defense systems that cost hundreds of millions of dollars crumble like toys, his feelings growing increasingly complicated.

Saitama followed at the back, looking around at the equipment as he walked.

“This door is quite sturdy,” he suddenly said. “It should fetch a good price if we take it apart.”

Genos: "...Teacher, we're here to fight."

“Fighting and making money are not mutually exclusive,” Saitama said seriously. “Look at this alloy, it can sell for at least 500,000 yen. That’s enough to eat ramen for a year.”

Zhang Hai stopped and looked at the door.

Then he reached out and gave it a gentle push.

The door fell down.

The sound of metal twisting was piercing, but Zhang Hai's expression remained unchanged.

"We'll move it after we're done fighting," he said.

Saitama nodded and noted the location.

The three continued walking down.

The further down you go, the more strange people you encounter.

Those weirdos were all incredibly strong and incredibly insane. Some charged in and immediately self-destructed, some unleashed ear-piercing sonic attacks, and some could even briefly distort space.

But no matter what methods they use, the result is the same.

Zhang Hai simply kept walking forward.

Sometimes he waved, sometimes he glanced at them, sometimes he did nothing at all. And then those strange people fell, shattered, and vanished.

Genos went from initial shock to numbness, and finally... awe.

He suddenly realized something.

This person is not fighting.

He was just walking.

Those weirdos, those defense systems, those so-called elites of the House of Evolution—they were just ants he casually stepped on while walking.

He didn't see them as rivals, or even obstacles. He simply walked towards his goal, not caring how many ants he stepped on along the way.

This attitude is more terrifying than any force.

Saitama followed behind, watching Zhang Hai's retreating figure, and suddenly said, "You've killed a lot of people before, haven't you?"

Zhang Hai paused for a moment.

Then he continued walking forward.

“Yes,” he said.

His voice was calm, but Genos sensed something else.

It wasn't pride, it wasn't regret, it wasn't any emotion that could be clearly defined.

That was just a statement.

It's as bland as saying, "The weather is nice today."

They walked for an hour and finally reached the bottom of the base.

This is a huge circular hall with a dome hundreds of meters high, surrounded by densely packed experimental chambers. Each chamber contains a strangely shaped creature, some already formed, others still in the process of development.

In the very center of the hall stood a person.

A middle-aged man in a white coat, wearing thick glasses, had a neurotic smile on his face.

"Welcome, welcome!" He opened his arms wide. "I've been waiting for you for a long time, intruders!"

Genos stepped forward: "You're Genos?"

“It is I,” Dr. Genus bowed. “The founder of the House of Evolution, a great scientist, and the future ruler of the world. Of course, these titles will soon be supplemented with one more—your Grim Reaper.”

He straightened up, his smile becoming even more maniacal.

“You think that making it this far means you’re strong? No, no, no.” He shook his finger. “It means you’re stupid. Because you helped me get rid of all the useless trash, so I can focus on dealing with you.”

He clapped his hands.

At the far end of the hall, a huge metal door slowly opened.

Heavy footsteps came from behind the door.

thump.

thump.

thump.

With every step, the ground shook.

A huge figure emerged from behind the door.

That was a monster.

It has the general outline of a human, but its entire body is covered with a jet-black carapace. Its head is a huge rhinoceros beetle head, with two compound eyes flashing a scarlet light, and a single horn on its head like a curved spear.

Its hands are enormous, scythe-like forelimbs, each three meters long and sharp enough to cut through any substance. Behind it are a pair of translucent wings, which, though not yet unfolded, are unsettling to behold.

"Let me introduce it," Dr. Genus's voice was filled with pride. "This is the culmination of my life's work, the ultimate weapon of the House of Evolution—the Asura Rhinoceros Beetle!"

The Asura Rhinoceros Beetle lowered its head and scanned the three of them with its compound eyes.

Its gaze lingered on Saitama for a second before shifting away.

It lingered on Genos for two seconds, then moved away.

Finally, it fixed its gaze on Zhang Hai.

Its smile slowly widened, revealing a mouthful of fangs.

“You,” it spoke, its voice like the friction of metal, “are very strong.”

Zhang Hai looked at it without saying a word.

“I’m very happy,” said Asura Rhinoceros Beetle. “It’s been a long time since I was born that I’ve encountered an opponent who can excite me. Those so-called S-class heroes are all weaker than the last, and they don’t even have the qualifications to make me take them seriously.”

It raised its sickle-shaped forelimbs toward Zhang Hai.

“But you are different. I can feel the power within you, something I’ve never seen before.” Its compound eyes gleamed with a fanatical light. “Come on, let me see just how excited you can get me.”
