Chapter 2229 Operation Dreaded Winter -Part 17
without a doubt, the humans behind the city walls were trembling.
the information had been kept so tightly until the citizens within the capital city of ends started to suspect something was off when they saw waves of soldiers were transferred from the north of their walls to the south of them.
in fact, more soldiers were being recalled from the northern borders of ends and back to reinforce the city. it was to the point where the citizens were complaining that there were way too many soldiers loitering around the city. it felt extremely uncomfortable and many thought that ress had once more sent a major blow to the citizens of ends.
however, that was not the case. a lot of the soldiers were not injured at all and everyone were rushing just to reinforce the south. in fact, many of them were setting camps and barricades just further south of the city walls as if they were preparing for an internal civil war.
but considering how all of the alliance's army representatives were around, people were started to get desperate for more information. and even the tightest of lips among the soldiers were immediately loosen with some form of bribery. be it booze, money or woman, the people who needed the information finally got it.
the news spread like wild fire to the point that what the king of ends was worried about had finally happened. internal riots and protests were propping up just to ask for the king for answers but because of how there was such a high level of military presence in the area, such events were quickly stamped out.
yet that does not stop a lot of the peasants to brave the unknown- by going further north and look for refuge in the kingdom that they were supposed to hate. most of the peasants honestly did not care for the politics that their king was playing and in fact, the king even allowed them to leave for they know that rations would be tough if there were too many mouths to feed should the siege from the demons start.
"yes. i understand but i like you to understand that-"
"that you have a demon horde parked right outside of your kingdom? yea i know of that. in fact, i warned your kingdom and alliance that this will happen. but none of you believed it. in contrast, i noticed that you all had decided to gather everyone from different kingdoms in preparation to invade us."
"yes... and from what i saw...it seems that if we do that, we would be crushed rather easily..." the noble whispered upon hearing jin's reply, knowing that he is the one that has overwhelming advantage in this current conversation. and the king of ress is not wrong. from the noble's perspective, he was thinking that ress could not have recovered so quickly from the fight against the heavenly beings.
but to think that he was not just wrong but off the charts kind of wrong. they not only recovered but also expanded so rapidly that its scary. if he had known from the start, he and his family would have migrated here immediately.
"so? you want us to rescue your city?" jin asked and the noble with his head full of sweat nodded ever so slightly without a proper haughty reply which he always give to people under him.
"no. i would not do such a thing. i do not see any benefits in doing so. if your people can wear down the horde, then won't it be easier for me to handle them? why must i help you?" the king of ress said as he snapped his fingers and pictures of dead cities and towns were shown to the noble.
"either you surrender your nobility and start working here as a normal citizen or stay as a refugee. this is the only pity i am going to give you." jin commented before standing up and walked back to his room without giving the person any chance to speak.
