Chapter 221 Why Can't You Love Me (Part 1)
The moment she pulled open her clothes, a blast of cold air rushed in, making her shiver.
Bo Junxing's body was as cold as a block of iron, and she couldn't help but tighten her arms around him.
Soon after, Bo Junxing's breath gradually became warm.
Shen Feiwan gently supported the back of his head, adjusting it to a most comfortable position. She held him like that, slowly closing her eyes.
Shen Feiwan thought she would have trouble falling asleep in such a cold and harsh environment, but soon her eyelids felt as heavy as lead and she closed them uncontrollably.
She didn't know how much time had passed when Shen Feiwan vaguely felt something moving around her waist.
She tried hard to open her eyes but couldn't, yet she could clearly hear Bo Junxing's voice in her ears.
"Shen Feiwan."
"Hmm?" she mumbled in response. "Are you still cold?"
Her response was another complete question: "Why can't you just love me for once?"
"..." Shen Feiwan suddenly opened her eyes, all sleepiness instantly gone.
She looked down and saw that a thin layer of snow had accumulated on the top of Bo Junxing's hair.
His arms wrapped tightly around her waist beneath her coat, and he asked again, "Why can't you love me just a little?"
Shen Feiwan exhaled a puff of white breath, "Are you awake?"
Bo Junxing took a deep breath in her arms, his nose brushing against her collarbone. "You're so warm."
Shen Feiwan glanced at the nearly extinguished fire, the two of them seemingly on different wavelengths. "If you're awake, move around a bit. I'll go add some more fuel to the fire."
Bo Junxing hugged her even tighter, "Why don't you love me?"
Shen Feiwan lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on his high, straight nose, and asked him.
"Then do you love me?" Her voice was soft. "Bo Junxing, is love something that can happen so easily?"
Bo Junxing looked up, his eyes burning hotter than flames and clearer than ice and snow.
He gently kissed Shen Feiwan's lips, then pulled away. "I want to love you..." His voice was a little hoarse. "You don't give me a chance. Love doesn't happen easily, but you've made it take root and sprout in me."
"Why?" Shen Feiwan's eyes were clear and bright as she looked directly into Bo Junxing's eyes, her expression innocent and pure. "Because you like making love with me, right? And if you fall in love while you're doing it, is that love?"
She didn't quite understand. "Otherwise, what do you love about me? Do you love that I lied to you, used you, or the thrill that I gave you by keeping you tied up? Is that love, Bo Junxing? I can't be sure."
Bo Junxing didn't speak; he reached out and cupped Shen Feiwan's cheeks.
His fingertips gently traced the contours of Shen Feiwan's face, and when their foreheads touched, their breaths mingled into a white mist.
His voice was soft, yet every word was clear.
"Have you ever cared about me? Cared about my feelings, my safety, my reputation..."
As he spoke, he suddenly leaned closer, his nose brushing against Shen Feiwan's nostril almost imperceptibly, his cool lips stopping just before they touched.
"They care about my every move and the slightest emotion."
His nose brushed against her cheek again, and his thumb caressed her earlobe. "Don't rush to deny it, think about it carefully."
Shen Feiwan's eyelashes trembled slightly. In the brief silence between the two, there was only the sound of wind and snow and their intertwined breaths.
She looked into Bo Junxing's eyes, where the firelight flickered. "I've thought about it..."
Her voice was soft, “When I asked you for help, I did care about your feelings. I didn’t want you to be angry, and I didn’t want everything I had done to go to waste.”
Bo Junxing's Adam's apple bobbed. "And now?"
His lips almost brushed against the corner of her mouth. "I'm injured, do you care?"
“I care. Because you were injured for my sake.” Her fingers traced the bandage on his chest. “I want you to live, otherwise I’ll feel guilty.”
"Is it just guilt?" Bo Junxing suddenly stepped back slightly, making her look into his eyes. "Aren't you afraid?"
"afraid of what?"
"Losing me".
Shen Feiwan shook her head slightly, "You are not mine, so how can I lose you?"
“Hehe…” Bo Junxing chuckled softly, then suddenly tilted his head, his nose slowly sliding down her nose bridge, finally stopping at the corner of her lips.
His lips brushed against hers almost imperceptibly, carrying the coolness of snow. He maintained this ambiguous distance, their lips barely touching, yet he never actually kissed her.
Shen Feiwan unconsciously held her breath until Bo Junxing left, then she unconsciously swallowed, her throat dry and sore.
“I promise you,” Bo Junxing suddenly spoke, his voice regaining its usual calm, “I will conceal your true identity.”
His fingers gently brushed through Shen Feiwan's wind-blown hair. "You and your friends will never be betrayed by me."
“We’ve been through life and death together,” he said, a weary smile curving his lips. “If anyone is after you, I hope you won’t suspect me first.”
Shen Feiwan lowered her eyes. "Okay, thank you."
Bo Junxing glanced at her again, then slowly sat up straight, leaning against the rock wall.
He leaned against the cold rock, his Adam's apple bobbing. "You're welcome."
Shen Feiwan also started to move. She gathered her loose collar and stood up, kicking up a flurry of snowflakes.
She sat back down by the fire and broke a dry branch in two, throwing it into the flames.
"So we've now completely put aside our past grievances and resentments, right?"
“Not entirely,” Bo Junxing said calmly. “I was injured because of you.”
He forced a smile, his lips pale. "You have to take care of me and be responsible for my injuries. At the very least, you can't abandon me in this snowy wilderness. I've lost an arm and I'm bleeding; it's hard for me to keep going alone."
Shen Feiwan straightened her expression and said, "You don't need to worry about that."
She looked directly into Bo Junxing's eyes, the firelight flickering in his pupils. "I also have my bottom line. Sometimes I might be ungrateful, but I would never do that in this situation."
Bo Junxing hummed in agreement, then pressed the back of his head against the rock wall and closed his eyes.
After a moment, he suddenly opened his eyes. "I remember you said earlier that you had something to discuss with me. What is it?"
“Those two assassins,” Shen Feiwan said, frowning. “I don’t think they’ll let this go. They might come looking for us. It was dark when we fell, so we couldn’t see anything. Maybe we’ll still see your bloodstains on the snow by tomorrow morning. The snow is intermittent and doesn’t seem to be very heavy, so it might not completely cover our tracks.”
Bo Junxing nodded. "If I were them, I wouldn't give up like that either. In their eyes, if we fell down, we would either live or die. If we died, it would be more convenient for them; they could just pick up the body and take it back."
“That’s right,” Shen Feiwan suddenly stood up and took a few steps. “Actually, I think this big rock is a good cover. I have a plan now, and I need your cooperation.”
"You said."
