Chapter 12 Innkeeper
Chapter 12 Innkeeper
When Chongyang heard that I wasn't there, his eyes lit up instantly, and the corners of his mouth turned up. He said happily, "Really? Then I'll go in!" He didn't even look around before saying it so casually.
"It's alright, you can go in!" You're quite considerate, so I have to grant your wish.
He pushed the door open halfway, feeling quite pleased with himself. He hadn't expected to get in so easily! He'd heard the landlady was a stunning beauty; it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask her for some money, would it?
He opened the door and strode inside.
I followed behind him carrying the things. When he turned around and saw me, he was so frightened that he collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. When he saw that I was carrying the things, he immediately stood up and pretended to brush the dust off his clothes.
I thought to myself, "Oh my god! When did a stunning beauty stand behind me? I was scared to death!" But there are quite a few beautiful women in this inn.
Chongyang pretended to scold, "Why do you walk so quietly? You're a waiter at the inn, aren't you!"
Is this supposed to be self-justifying? I didn't say anything, yet you've already arranged my identity! But I'm not one to spoil the fun, after all, I'm the only one in this inn, I'm both the owner and the waiter, so I nodded to Chongyang.
Chongyang breathed a heavy sigh of relief, put his hands behind his back, adopted the demeanor of a leader on an inspection tour, and immediately put on airs, "I am a guest invited by your boss, so quickly bring out the best wine and tea to entertain me." In reality, he was extremely flustered and could only tightly clench his fingers.
You didn't even bother to find out the facts before putting your ego right in front of me. Isn't that just showing off in front of a PR person? You've really got a nerve!
But it's been a long time since anyone's put on airs in front of me! Well then, I'll tease you a bit today. I lowered my head, lowered my voice, and said in a wronged tone, "There's no food or drink, and the boss hasn't even paid me my salary yet!"
Chongyang was clearly taken aback and exclaimed in surprise. "What? No wine or tea... Never mind, you go ahead and get busy. I'll talk to the landlady for you later; withholding wages is unacceptable." So poor? What am I supposed to rob then?
Of course not, otherwise I'd let you take advantage! You dare to say that.
Chongyang then noticed the snacks and fruit I was carrying, his small eyes darting around before he looked away, casually saying, "Your boss told you to buy these to treat me, right? You must be tired of carrying them, let me help you." Every little bit helps; this inn is too poor for its size!
Sometimes I really don't understand, where do you get the nerve to blame everything on yourself? You know whether I'm tired or not, and besides, I was just putting things on the ground, which eye of yours saw me get tired from carrying them!
I'm done playing with this idiot! I'm speechless! "No need, our boss instructed us to take these things back to the kitchen." Can you understand what I'm saying? Don't make me angry.
Chongyang blushed deeply, wishing she could disappear into a hole in the ground. She tried to keep her voice steady as she said, "Oh! Really? Then you can go ahead and get busy!" Ugh! How embarrassing!
I've been watching your performance quietly, and now you're trying to get rid of me so you'll have more time to commit your crimes, huh? Well, how can I not grant your wish!
I carried the snacks and fruit toward the kitchen, silently calling out to Wu Lai, "Wu Lai, keep an eye on him. If he dares to damage the inn, teach him a lesson."
Wu Lai replied with a hint of interest, "Okay, I guarantee it will be unforgettable for him."
As Chongyang watched me walk away, he immediately jumped up and down on the spot, praising himself for being so clever! His face was filled with proud and self-satisfied confidence.
After a moment, Chongyang walked happily to the front desk of the inn, sat down in a chair without any hesitation, and asked the air, "Beautiful lady, would you like to stay at the inn?"
Seeing that Chongyang was asking him, Wu Lai said in a low voice, "If you want to stay, check me in."
Suddenly hearing an echo, Chongyang cried out in fright, "Ah!" and immediately slid off his chair to his knees, eyes tightly shut, hands covering his head, muttering, "Don't come any closer! Help! There's a ghost... a ghost!" This inn is too eerie! There was clearly no one there just now, so who responded to me?
Wu Lai circled Chongyang, thinking to herself, "So cowardly, yet he dares to steal." After a while, Chongyang slowly opened one eye to survey his surroundings.
He saw no one and thought someone was playing a trick on him, so his courage returned. He stood up and looked around for someone, but after searching for a long time, he still couldn't find a single person, and a tremor ran through him.
Chongyang rolled his little eyes, immediately picked up the lucky cat from the front desk and ran outside, but an unexpected incident occurred when he crossed the threshold.
With a cry of "Ouch!", Chongyang bumped into the deliveryman, smashing the lucky cat in his hand to pieces on the ground before Wulai could stop him.
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Wu Lai quickly called for Huan Yuechu.
Chongyang preemptively struck, angrily saying, "What's wrong with you? Can't you watch where you're going? You owe me my lucky cat."
The deliveryman was furious, thinking, "How dare you steal my word!" But his professional ethics wouldn't allow him to lose his temper. He took a deep breath, glanced around, and a mocking smile appeared on his lips.
Pointing at the hidden security camera at the front desk, she retorted, "You really can't watch where you're going, and you're blaming others? Just look at the security footage and the truth will be clear! You're trying to extort me? I think you're just desperate for money!" Do you really think I'm that easy to bully?
Chongyang stood there, stunned, thinking, "It's over! It's over! I got nothing and I even got photographed as evidence. I have to run away right now."
As soon as he finished thinking, he immediately took off running outside, startling the delivery guy. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought there was an earthquake! Just as he was about to step out of the inn, with a thud, Huan Yuechu kicked Chongyang hard into the inn.
"You broke something! And you want to run away? Did I give you permission?" Chongyang was easily lifted by the collar and brought back to the front desk like a quail egg.
Chongyang was completely bewildered, thinking, "Wasn't she a waitress? How did she become the proprietress? And she's so strong, I can't possibly beat her, boohoo!"
Just then, the deliveryman saw me carrying the Double Ninth Festival gift, gave me a thumbs up, and then smiled professionally, saying, "Hello ma'am, this is your package. Please sign here."
I put Chongyang on the ground and asked Wulai to keep an eye on him, figuring he wouldn't dare to run away.
I'll sign for the package first! I'll settle the score with Chongyang later. Once I've confirmed the package isn't damaged, I'll see the delivery guy off.
I turned around and lay down on the rocking chair that I had just taken apart, closed my eyes, and said lazily, "How are you going to compensate me for my things? Should I send you to the police station?"
Upon hearing that he was to be taken to the police station, Chongyang panicked and said, "No, how much? I'll pay you back." I had only been released not long ago and didn't want to go back in. Even though I was resentful, I had no choice but to accept defeat since I couldn't win.
I opened my eyes, stood up, stared coldly at Chongyang, and said in a stern tone, "Do you have 100,000 yuan?" He's finally been released, and he still wants to do bad things.
"I...no, but I can work to pay off the debt." It's just a lucky cat figurine, why is it so expensive?
