Chapter 334 The Design Drawings Were Stolen
Chapter 334 The Design Drawings Were Stolen
My mind was a bit of a mess. "What is it?" I forced myself to stand up, my palms were sweaty.
He waved the envelope in his hand. "The company problems may involve seven other people; it's likely the work of an insider."
I didn't reply and followed him out of the conference room. Song Yafei's gaze followed us out as well.
"What does the letter say?" I stared intently at the envelope.
His face was somber as he handed me the letter. I paused, then gripped the envelope.
The letter paper was the old-fashioned kind, yellowed paper, exuding a worn-out feel. The handwriting, however, was strong and vigorous, each stroke conveying strength.
The message was simple and blunt: I and Song Yafei should stop immediately and cease our investigation, or we would face the consequences.
"This is blatant bluffing." My brow furrowed instantly, the letter in my hand clenching into a distorted shape. Who is it, playing dirty tricks again? I knew there was someone behind this?
“There’s something even worse than this.” He sighed, his voice extremely low. “We’ve dug up something else as well.”
Is there something even more difficult?
My heart sank, and I looked up at him.
"Take a look for yourself." He handed over a tablet, the screen lit up, and several pictures popped up.
That...that's not my design draft?
No, it's my most treasured blueprint! The one locked deep inside the safe!
How could this be?!
"How did this thing get out?" I felt my throat tighten and my voice changed.
"Someone posted it on the dark web, wanting to sell it, and the price is very high."
"Our people followed the clues, but the other party was very slippery, and there weren't many leads. But we're certain that the leak came from within our ranks."
Inside the company? Could it be that Madam Song is manipulating things behind the scenes again?
"Right now, only you and I know about this." He deliberately emphasized those words, "So... be extremely careful when handling it."
I nodded blankly, my mind a jumbled mess.
The door to the conference room not far away was half-open, and through the frosted glass, Song Yafei's figure could be vaguely seen; she seemed to be looking this way.
I took a breath and told myself to calm down and talk about it when I got back.
“I know what’s going on here. There aren’t many people who have access to the core information, so don’t make a fuss about it yet,” I instructed him. Seeing him nod, I turned around and slowly made my way back to the conference room.
The moment her bottom touched the chair, Song Yafei leaned in and whispered, "What's wrong? You don't look well."
I steadied myself, met her gaze, and spoke softly, "It's nothing. Just a reminder that the project's confidentiality level has been raised recently, and some procedures need to be more stringent. As for Assistant Luo... we'll also limit his access to core information for now."
She subtly raised her beautifully manicured eyebrows, picked up her coffee cup, took a small sip, and asked no further questions.
"The doctor said that Xiao Xiaotian's fever has subsided today. The child wants to go home, and the father said that the child should stay at home for the night. The doctor agreed."
"Great, we can go home right away once we're done here." My eyes lit up, but the gloom in my heart hadn't faded.
The meeting continued, but I didn't hear a single word of what followed. My ears were ringing, filled with that letter and that damned blueprint. The mole…who was it?
I spent the whole afternoon in a daze, handling official business entirely by muscle memory, while my brain was working at high speed, frantically reviewing the situation, wondering who stabbed me in the back.
I finally made it to the end and dragged myself home, completely exhausted.
The light in the entryway had just come on when a small figure rushed over and bumped into my leg.
"Daddy! You're back!" Little Tian exclaimed, looking up with her rosy cheeks. "The food smells delicious!"
"Really? I'm starving!" I said, making a "smack" sound on purpose. "Were you good today? Did you cause any trouble? Tell me the truth."
"No!" He puffed out his little chest, very proudly, "I was super good! I drank all my medicine, and Aunt Lin praised me for being brave! I even put together a big dinosaur!"
"Oh? How big was the dinosaur?" I teased him on purpose.
"So big!" He stretched out his little arms to show me, almost poking my nose. Seeing his carefree and cheerful attitude, the irritation in my heart was temporarily dispelled.
Song Yafei also returned. When she took off her high heels, she rubbed her ankles almost imperceptibly. Her face showed fatigue, but her spirit was still there.
After dinner, Aunt Lin took Xiaoxiaotian upstairs to tell him a story and put him to bed.
The living room suddenly fell silent, leaving only Song Yafei and me.
Finally, she spoke first, her voice not loud, but clearly breaking the silence.
"The letter, and... what are you going to do about the design drawings?" She had indeed noticed, or rather, guessed.
"What else can we do? Find the mole." I sank deeper into the sofa and pressed my temples hard.
“I will arrange for people to investigate thoroughly.” There was no room for negotiation in her tone. “Once is enough to make you suffer.”
“That would be best.” I glanced at her. “They’ve made a direct threat; it doesn’t look like they’re joking.”
“I know my limits.” She paused, choosing her words carefully. “But what are you planning to do? What do you want me to do?”
“This time is different, Yafei.” I sat up straight and looked into her eyes. “That drawing… you know what it means to me.” It wasn’t just a design, it was more…
Her gaze flickered for a moment, then quickly settled back on her words. "Of course I understand."
"Then hurry up. We must dig them out before they sell the blueprints or cause any bigger trouble."
"Yes," she replied. "For Xiao Xiaotian's sake, we can't let them succeed."
The air was filled with her usual violet perfume, faint and familiar. Once, this scent meant a sense of security.
"Then... shall we join forces?" she asked casually, yet as if testing the waters, "like before?"
Before? Which before? It was when we were working hard together. I was a little dazed for a moment.
Looking at her calm and gentle face, I nodded. "Okay." It was just one word, but it carried a lot of weight.
“Then let’s start the investigation from within. Begin tomorrow.” She seemed to have made a decision.
Our relationship seems to have grown even closer. In the countless days we've spent together, we've shared laughter and sorrow. Every conversation has given me an indescribable warmth and strength. As long as we stand shoulder to shoulder, nothing is impossible.
Night deepened, and the city lights outside the window shone brightly, yet I felt that beneath this calm, undercurrents were quietly surging, ready to unleash a storm at any moment. It could be aimed at our enemies, or it could be at ourselves.
"Who do you think it could be?" she suddenly asked.
