Chapter 34 The Complete Record of the Universe
Chapter 34 The Complete Record of the Universe
"That's strange."
Cai Xuan stroked his chin, looking completely bewildered.
Why is it that when I flip through it myself, the book doesn't move at all, lying quietly in my hand without any change; but when this little guy flips it, it's like it's absorbed into his brain and shining brightly? It's full of special effects. Does this book recognize people?
He thought and thought, but still couldn't figure it out.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. He reached under his pillow and took out "A Compendium of Qigong," saying to Xi'er, "Xi'er, come here, flip through this book and see what changes occur?"
Cai Xuan had read this book many times and never found anything wrong with it.
Seeing the changes in the Xuanhuang Medicine Manual in her hands, she couldn't help but feel a little expectant.
Xi'er, who had been reading in her mind with her eyes closed, opened them upon hearing this, took the book, and began to flip through it. Her small fingers slid from the cover to the title page, and then to the first chapter.
Suddenly, a dazzling golden light flew out from the pages of the book, soaring into the sky and reaching the heavens!
An ancient, profound, and majestic aura emanated from the book, as if it came from before the creation of the world, or from the very beginning of the universe.
The "Compendium of Qigong" slowly floated up from Xi'er's hands, hovering in mid-air, enveloped in a dazzling array of colorful light.
The iridescent light, like flowing glass, swirled slowly around the book, changing with each rotation. The ordinary paper became lustrous, like jade, with faint golden veins; the plain cover transformed into a silk woven from some unknown rare material, smooth and warm to the touch, like touching clouds; and the edges of the pages were coated with fine golden patterns, like ancient runes, radiating a mysterious glow.
Amidst the colorful light, strange phenomena appeared one after another.
Ancient scriptures floated and sank in the light, some in bamboo scrolls, some in gold and jade tablets, some in silk and palm leaves, each with its own unique form, yet all radiating a sacred glow; profound martial arts techniques flowed within the light, some like thunder descending upon the world, some like a gentle spring breeze, some like a long river rushing to the sea, some like a deep pool and a towering mountain; countless profound principles of heaven and earth flowed across the radiance, every symbol, every pattern containing the aura of the Great Dao; endless laws of the Heavenly Dao swept through the colorful light, life and death alternating, yin and yang transforming, the five elements interacting, time and space shifting…
These extraordinary phenomena intertwined and overlapped, as if they had condensed all the Tao, all the laws, all the scriptures, all the classics, all the skills, and all the secrets of the world into this one instant.
Then, everything fell silent.
The golden light receded, the colorful light dissipated, and the suspended book fell back into Xi'er's hands.
The magnificent phenomena receded like the tide, leaving behind only a profound and unforgettable awe.
The book that fell back into my hands had completely changed its appearance. It was no longer an ordinary, crudely printed pirated copy of "Qigong Compilation," but an antique-looking book made of some unknown material.
The book has a faint golden sheen and feels warm to the touch. On the cover, the words "Comprehensive Record of the Universe's Scriptures" are written in a mysterious and profound style.
Cai Xuan was stunned and it took him a long time to come to his senses.
At this moment, he felt very strange. Why did it not react at all when he picked it up, but this little one changed and showed all sorts of strange phenomena as soon as he touched it? Could it be that she was God's favorite child?
Cai Xuan looked down at his own hands, then at Xi'er's fair and tender little hands, and fell into deep self-doubt.
Xi'er didn't care whether it changed or what strange phenomena it might have; she just opened it to look at it.
Suddenly, a sliver of light flew out from the page of the book, circled in the air like a firefly, and then gently landed between her eyebrows, disappearing into her mind.
Xi'er blinked, remained silent for a moment, as if she were going through something in her mind.
After a while, she raised her head and said to Cai Xuan, "Brother, I have books in my head again."
"What book?" Cai Xuan asked with a strange look.
"The 'Mending Heaven's Essence' says that practicing it is good for the body."
Cai Xuan's expression became even more peculiar.
The instant she finished speaking, a flash of inspiration struck him, transforming into an ancient book with three large characters written on its pages: "Mending Heaven's Marrow".
He immersed himself in it, and the contents of the technique naturally surfaced in his consciousness.
"The Marrow of Heaven" describes the method of repairing one's innate foundation, a skill that involves the workings of nature and is profound and unfathomable.
The book is divided into five volumes. The first volume contains four prefaces that explain the origin and main purpose of the book, with every word being precious and every sentence full of profound meaning.
Each volume follows a consistent lineage, comprising the sections on "Understanding the Profound," "Approaching the Approach," "The Stages of Practice," "Explanation," and "Summary." It is a cohesive whole, starting from the basics and progressing to ultimate mastery. Every step, stage, and level of practice, as well as the dangers and risks to be avoided, is described in detail without reservation.
It contains a four-step exercise: the first step is to preserve essence, qi, spirit, and marrow, so as to ensure that the foundation is not damaged;
The second step is to strengthen the essence, qi, spirit, and marrow, making what is being protected as solid as a rock. The third step is to nourish the essence, qi, spirit, and marrow, nurturing and cultivating them with the gentle warmth of the body. The fourth step is to replenish the essence, qi, spirit, and marrow, filling the innate deficiencies and repairing the damage to the foundation.
The four steps are progressive and indispensable; they constitute the complete path to repairing one's innate foundation.
"Do you recognize the words on that book?" Cai Xuan asked.
"I don't know it." Xi'er shook her head, then added, "But I know what it means."
"Then read the words above aloud."
"Okay." Xi'er closed her eyes, sat up straight, and began to recite in her childish voice the contents of a book called "Mending the Heavenly Marrow" in her mind: "The key to preservation is to prevent leakage, also known as blocking the orifices. The key to consolidation is to block the mechanisms, also known as locking the gates. The key to nourishment is to cultivate a rich, moist environment, also known as nurturing. The key to replenishment is to gather nutrients, also known as adding oil. In short, one must strive for complete essence, complete qi, complete spirit, and complete marrow in order to achieve something..."
As Cai Xuan listened to each word she recited, he discovered that it was exactly the same as the content of the "Mending Heaven Marrow" cultivation method in his mind, with only one word different.
His expression was extremely strange.
Why is this happening?
He thought about it for a long time, but still couldn't figure it out. However, he had one good point: he wouldn't dwell on things he couldn't understand, and he never got stuck on a single issue, since it wouldn't do him any harm anyway. In fact, it seemed to have many advantages.
Upon realizing that "Qigong Compendium" had been transformed into "Comprehensive Record of the Universe's Scriptures," Cai Xuan's spirits immediately lifted. He promptly took out the "Complete Collection of Martial Arts" and handed it to Xi'er: "Xi'er, take another look at this one. Has anything changed?"
Xi'er took it and flipped through it quickly.
There was no golden light, no colorful light, no strange phenomena, nothing at all.
The book is still the same book, the paper is still the same paper, and the words on the cover haven't changed either.
For some reason, Cai Xuan felt a slight sense of relief upon seeing the result. Thankfully, nothing had changed; otherwise, he wouldn't know whether he was the protagonist of the book or she was.
