Chapter 27 The Zombies of Silverleaf Town
Chapter 27 The Zombies of Silverleaf Town
"Let's get some supplies ready first," Cole said in a deep voice. "Neil, go with Ella to buy a magic replenishment scroll; Lynch and I, go to the weapon shop to get some arrows."
Lin Qi followed behind the old archer, still somewhat hesitant.
Should I tell him my intuition?
A moment later.
Lynch followed Cole and they had just reached the entrance of the weapons shop in town.
Suddenly, a piercing scream ripped through the sky, even louder than the screams from the previous night, a desperate roar that instantly drowned out the noise of the entire street.
"Um?"
Cole's expression changed, and he immediately stopped in his tracks.
The archer's hawk-like eyes turned toward the source of the sound.
Not far away, a man covered in blood was seen frantically lunging at a fruit vendor, then biting the vendor's neck, causing blood to gush out and splatter all over the ground.
The moment the vendor was bitten, he instinctively fought back fiercely, but in the blink of an eye, his limbs fell limply to the ground, and he quickly became still. However, just a few seconds later, he suddenly convulsed, his body twisted, and he scrambled to his feet, lunging at the passersby beside him.
People who heard the commotion were still peeking out from various places, unaware of what had happened.
Lynch and Cole, on the other hand, saw everything clearly.
Unlike the old archer's surprise and doubt.
Lin Qi was filled with questions.
"This is fucking like a zombie movie!"
The chaos didn't give the two much time to react. The merchant who had gotten back up suddenly rushed towards Lin Qi at the entrance of the weapons shop with incredible speed.
"Get out of the way!"
The old archer reacted swiftly, grabbing Lin Qi's clothes and pulling him into the shop. He then drew his bow, nocked an arrow, and with a flash of cold light, struck the merchant's arm.
It wasn't that the old archer missed.
However, in town, one cannot kill indiscriminately if the situation is unclear.
The merchant who was shot in the arm seemed to feel no pain at all. After his speed was slightly affected, he continued to climb over at high speed.
At that moment, the weapons shop owner heard the commotion outside. A tall, burly man, twice the size of Lynch, he walked like a mountain of flesh, grumbling as he went, "Damn it, what's all this noise so early in the morning, Old Cole? What are you doing shooting arrows in front of my shop?"
Then, he actually shoved the bewildered old Cole aside and walked out.
"Be careful!"
Old Cole's warning came too late.
The vendor who pounced on the shopkeeper knocked him down.
A scream rang out instantly.
Seeing this, Old Cole stomped his foot, went straight into the store, struggled to close the door, and pressed his ear against it, listening intently to the sounds outside.
Lin Qi followed suit and pasted it on as well.
Screams.
There were screams everywhere.
He glanced up at the old archer, whose face was covered in cold sweat and whose expression held a hint of fear.
Clearly, he had never encountered anything like this in all his years of adventure.
"Uncle, what should we do?"
Lin Qi asked softly.
Cole did not respond.
Lynch asked again.
"what?"
Cole snapped out of his daze and looked at the black-haired boy in front of him. The calmness in the boy's eyes instantly brought him back to his senses.
"Grab some things first," he said, glancing around the weapons shop. "Anyway, this fat guy is probably doomed. If we see him again later, we can just buy him the rest."
"Let's go find Ella and Neil first."
"Leave the town."
"It looks like things are about to get very chaotic here."
The two first replenished their supplies of any weapons they needed.
Lin Qi wanted to help the old archer carry a quiver of arrows, but found he couldn't lift it, leaving the old archer speechless.
"Kid, you really need to work on your muscles."
"If you can't even carry your own wife after you get married and start a family, how will you be the head of the household?"
The screams in the street went from dense to sparse in a very short time.
It seems everyone has already run away.
The weapon shop door quietly opened a crack, and a black-haired head popped out, cautiously observing the surroundings. Sure enough, apart from the bloodstains, the street was deserted, and even the fat shop owner was nowhere to be seen.
They've probably turned into zombies.
"Ella and Neil are still at the roll shop; who knows what might happen to them."
Cole pressed himself against the door, his voice sounding somewhat anxious, but he quickly forced himself to calm down.
"We'll split up. I'll go to the roll shop to find Ella and Neil. You go and search around elsewhere to see if you can run into them. Whether you find them or not, come back here in fifteen minutes, understand?"
Lynch nodded.
"If you really get into trouble, don't be reckless, just run."
Cole patted him on the shoulder and handed him a short knife, saying, "It's better to have it for self-defense than to be empty-handed."
The two had a clear division of labor. After confirming that no one was outside, the old archer darted out and ran briskly towards the scroll shop, quickly disappearing from sight.
Lin Qi, on the other hand, bent over and walked in the opposite direction, trying to stay close to the wall and not make any unnecessary noise.
At this moment, the once bustling street was eerily quiet, with only the rustling sound of the wind blowing through the scattered goods and the occasional faint roars from afar. The bloodstains on the ground had begun to congeal, turning black and sticky, making it slippery underfoot.
Lynch did not choose to take the main road, but instead chose to travel through narrow alleys.
He clutched the dagger Cole had given him, his knuckles turning slightly white.
To be honest, having lived this long, he had never imagined that he would one day encounter such a zombie-like scenario. Last night's Red Wolf mercenary was already bizarre enough, but today's devastation was simply outrageous!
As he walked, a low roar suddenly came from the alleyway ahead. Lin Qi stopped abruptly, held his breath, and quietly peeked out.
In the alley, a woman covered in blood was lying on the ground, gnawing on something. Judging from her back and clothing, she looked like the still-attractive old lady who owned a grocery store in town. Although she was old, she was very well-maintained, with skin as white as milk. However, half of her body was now stained red with blood.
She was on all fours, and her movements looked somewhat stiff.
I was also infected.
Lin Qi's heart sank, and he quietly took a step back to try and go around it, but he accidentally stepped on a piece of gravel with a soft "click".
The proprietress suddenly looked up, a piece of meat still dangling from her mouth.
Her eyes were completely purple, without a trace of white. She instantly locked onto Lin Qi's direction, let out a piercing roar, and pounced in that direction.
Lin Qi reacted quickly, turning around and running deeper into the alley.
The next moment he froze. The alley was too narrow, with high walls on both sides and a tightly closed gate at the end. There was nowhere to hide. After running a few steps, he had nowhere to go.
They wanted to knock hard on the door, but worried about attracting more infected people.
I tried to push the door open, but found that I only had a little strength and couldn't do anything about it.
Add some points!
He reacted extremely quickly.
thump.
However, before he could communicate with the system, he was tackled by the grocery store owner who had rushed over at lightning speed.
Lin Qi tried to struggle, but the other person was far stronger than him, and he couldn't even turn over. The roar from the other person's mouth was right next to his ear. For the first time, Lin Qi felt that danger was so close to him.
"System, full power!"
