Chapter 6, Diary Entry 2: Flying Sword?
Chapter 6, Diary Entry 2: Flying Sword?
Royal study room.
Carved beams and painted buildings, resplendent.
The emperor sat once again before the sandalwood desk, his dragon robe magnificent, woven with gold and silver threads, displaying the majesty of the supreme ruler.
The memorials on the desk were piled up like a mountain. One of them looked ordinary, but the cover had the four characters "Cultivation Diary" written on it, which made it stand out from the other memorials.
Looking at the "Cultivation Diary" lying unmoved on the pile of memorials, a hint of helplessness and curiosity flashed in the emperor's eyes.
He sighed softly, reached out, and opened it once again.
He had read the contents of the first page several times and knew them all too well.
He turned to the second page, wondering if there would be any new content.
If it really happens...
As the emperor was pondering this matter, he suddenly noticed that words were gradually appearing on the blank second page!
He was startled and immediately focused all his attention on the thin booklet in his hand.
He stared intently at the pages, watching as each word appeared out of thin air.
These words truly appeared out of nowhere, suddenly!
This wondrous sight filled the emperor with an unprecedented sense of surprise and curiosity.
He tried tearing the pages with his hands and found that the white paper, though seemingly ordinary, was actually quite tough, at least not something he could easily damage.
He immediately thought of many ways to test the book's sturdiness using water, fire, swords, and other weapons.
But the emperor suppressed his curiosity and impulse, and began to carefully read the second diary entry that had just surfaced.
"Spiritual power is indeed a very mysterious and special kind of energy."
"With just a trace of spiritual energy attached to my hand, I can easily pierce through hard stone."
"I secretly practiced many spells, and I still like sword control the most!"
"Riding a sword, soaring straight into the heavens. I don't think anyone could refuse that, could they?"
Upon reading this, the emperor paused slightly, captivated by the scene depicted in the brief text.
He could almost see a swordsman in flowing white robes, wielding a long sword, moving freely, his sword energy soaring straight into the clouds.
He had met many enlightened masters, but he had never heard of anyone who truly knew the art of sword control.
Indeed, there are quite a few swords and weapons that are offered to Taoist temples and sects, each with a more prestigious name than the last.
For example, the sword of the ancestor of the restoration, the magic weapon of the founder of the sect, and the treasures bestowed by the gods... Most of them come from ancient myths and legends, and no one has the ability to use them.
As for whether the treasures they worship are as powerful as the legends say, that is something that cannot be verified.
How carefree and joyful it would be to soar through the heavens on a sword!
After some contemplation, the emperor felt his mindset had become younger.
"Also, I met Chu Wen'er today."
"I didn't want to argue with her, but she kept pressuring me with her men and even arrested Lüyun on trumped-up charges."
The emperor had seen many such struggles between women in the harem.
He could imagine that Chu Wen'er was perhaps a beautiful but scheming woman, while Lü Yun was a loyal maid who was innocently implicated.
"In the end, I just punished them a little by making them fall down."
"Now I can easily eliminate a person, and the gap between me and ordinary people will only widen in the future."
The emperor frowned slightly, as if he could sense Chu Lengyu's thoughts as she wrote in her diary; her power needed no further embellishment.
He imagined her standing atop a high mountain, looking down upon all living beings, feeling both a sense of detached relief and a touch of loneliness.
"Loneliness is good," the emperor thought, trying to find amusement in his loneliness. "At least you don't have to review memorials and handle state affairs every day."
"So after I came back, I thought about it carefully and decided to set some rules for myself:"
"If you can do something with your hands, don't talk about it."
Upon seeing this, the emperor was surprised, then smiled knowingly.
He had assumed that the owner of the diary would believe that as a strong person, one should not bully the weak and should set a rule for oneself to be tolerant of others and not to fight or kill casually. He never expected that she would think that way.
He both loathed and admired this kind of person.
What I find repulsive is her unrestrained and uncontrollable personality; such a person would undoubtedly be an unruly troublemaker if placed in the imperial court.
But what I admire is her straightforward, honest, and unpretentious nature; such a person is a rare find in this world.
There was only a little bit left in the diary, so he continued reading.
"I've never liked writing essays since I was little, and now I have to write a diary every day, which is such a hassle. I don't even know what to write about. Am I supposed to record all those random bits and pieces?"
"Forget it, since only I can see it anyway, I'll just write whatever I feel like from now on."
"At worst, I'll just write down my insights into the 'Inquiry into the Dao' technique. I'm a genius!"
After reading it, the emperor remained silent in thought.
Chu Lengyu had no idea that others could see this "Cultivation Diary".
If this mysterious book wasn't placed here by her, then whose could it be? Is my palace some kind of place where anyone can come and go as they please?
What is this "Quest for the Dao" mentioned here? Could it be some kind of cultivation technique?
Having witnessed the emergence of the diary entries today, the Emperor has developed a strong interest in both the diary and Chu Lengyu herself.
Could the matter of "cultivating immortality" be... real?
