Chapter 25 Current Status of the Woodland and Seeking Rescue
Chapter 25 Current Status of the Woodland and Seeking Rescue
Before sunset, Liu Bei and the others had all returned to the woods.
When they returned to the woodland this time, there were no longer only a few Tiflin militiamen guarding the camp walls as before.
The high slope surrounding the woodland has been demolished, but there are still residual magical fluctuations at the original site of the slope;
Vines meandered along the camp walls, and the Tiflin militiamen, carrying bows and arrows, could be vaguely seen patrolling above.
"Aren't you afraid of fire?"
Liu Bei asked a question.
He was satisfied with the changes in the woodland; it was clear that Kaha and the others had put in a lot of effort, although there were so many branches and vines...
"They are all alive, spreading from the sacred pool, and are not afraid of mortal fire, unless bombarded with fireballs day and night."
"Who would bother using a fireball to blow this thing up!" Ansel muttered under his breath. Even from a distance, he could sense the Severus's divine power on the vines. It was indeed possible to burn these things with a fireball, but after burning them, the little thing connected to the vines would probably be gone too. At that point, it wouldn't just be a matter of killing a few druids, but blasphemy.
Those who aren't afraid of divine retribution can give it a try!
Upon entering the woods, Liu Bei noticed that the atmosphere was no longer as relaxed as before.
The druids nervously transported various supplies to the outskirts of the woodland, preparing for a possible siege; the teflins were no longer idle, either standing guard on the camp walls or beginning training under Will's guidance.
There were no furnaces in the woodland, but with the help of the druids, there were enough arrows. For the Tieflins, who had never experienced combat, being able to stand at a distance and shoot arrows was the greatest contribution they could make.
The shadow of war had already loomed over the woodlands, but no one was lamenting; everyone was doing their best to prepare.
"Did you call that owl bear over?"
While arranging forest defense work, Sefro spotted Liu Bei and his group from afar.
"Hmm, we're too late. Its lair has been overrun by the goblins..." Liu Bei suddenly remembered the earlier arrangements: "What's the situation with that passage? Did you find it?"
"Yes, the goblins discovered that secret passage. When we arrived, there was still a small team of goblins inside preparing for battle. Fortunately, with the help of Master Gale and the others, we managed to resolve the situation without any major incident." Sefro still felt lingering fear when he mentioned this incident.
That secret passage led directly to the deepest part of the temple. If such a small team were to break out of the temple during the goblin army's siege, it's unimaginable what the outcome would be.
"That's good!"
Liu Bei then said, "Sefro, now that the defenses of the woodlands are on track, I can rest assured. However, the woodlands' predicament is not over yet. As long as that goblin army outside is not dealt with, the crisis in the woodlands will not be resolved!"
"Master Gale mentioned earlier that there are three leaders directing those goblins. Do you mean assassination?"
Liu Bei shook his head. "We don't know the situation of those three leaders yet, so how can we talk about assassination?"
"I have an idea!" Asdell was excited when he heard the word assassination, which was his specialty.
"There's a goblin that's been captured in the woods. Perhaps we can use her True Soul skin to lead the way in! Let's find out the situation there before making a decision, what do you say? Besides, Varo also mentioned going to the goblin camp to gather information about the Supreme God..."
"You mean the poet Varro went to the goblin camp?" Sefro exclaimed in surprise.
"Varo? Is that Varo Samp Gadam? A bard?" Ansel's eyes lit up as he poked his little head over.
"He was indeed a bard."
"He's a complete liar! How could you believe him? There's no way he'd go to the goblin camp!"
Ansel hates this guy.
"In that case, Asdallen, you four should continue your search as before. Do not act rashly unless you are absolutely certain of success!"
"I suggest you take the goblin through the secret underground passage, without letting them notice our setup. After you leave, we'll reset the traps inside the passage. When we attack the city, we can give those goblins a surprise underground," Sefro immediately suggested.
"Then so be it. Sefro, you go ahead. We'll go check on the severed beak."
"A severed beak?"
"That owl bear."
"Once you go inside, turn left and you'll find a natural observation deck; it's located on top of that!"
Following Sefro's directions, Liu Bei arrived at the location of the severed beak.
When Liu Bei arrived, Xiao Xiong was already asleep.
"What's that over there?"
Behind the owl was a precipice, below which flowed a winding river. On the other side of the river was a road, the destination of which was unknown.
Will pointed to the river and introduced it to Liu Bei: "That's the path to advancement. If you go up the river, you'll reach Vol'jin's Hibernation Grounds. The Flame Fist that returned from El Toril should be resting at Vol'jin's Hibernation Grounds mansion right now."
"Will, do you have any other plans for tomorrow?"
Will shook his head.
"In that case, how about you come with me to find that mercenary tomorrow? After all, you're the Border Blade of Baldur's Gate; with you there, negotiations with Flamefist will be much less troublesome. What do you say?"
After a moment's hesitation, Will replied, "Yes."
"Then let's get some rest tonight."
Liu Bei left after saying this.
Under the starlight, Will stared blankly at the distant mountain mists with his one eye.
......
Will was awakened by screams of pain.
Sleeping beside the owl was inexplicably warm, and he slept soundly all night until the deep sound echoing through the mountains in the morning pulled him from his dream.
"That voice sounds so familiar!"
He looked toward the river in the direction of the sound and saw a red figure engulfed in flames rolling in the water, but the red flames were not extinguished by the river.
"Karak! Found you!"
He couldn't make out the figure's exact appearance, but he remembered the rising flames vividly—the fire of hell!
And that person was none other than Karak, the personal war dog of Lord Zariel of Hell, whom he had been hunting all along!
After escaping from the Nautilus, he had been searching for her. Although he had been dealing with matters in the woods these past few days, he had encountered Asdalon and others from the Nautilus along the way, but he had not seen her. It turned out that she was on the Path of Advancement!
Will himself never expected that this place would be left behind.
He immediately packed his bags and hurried off toward his promotion!
This is his mission!
"Will, you've packed everything?" Ansel said, carrying a small backpack. "Asdallen and the others have already left. Liu Bei told me to come and get you."
Ansel had just returned from the blacksmith Demo in Tifflin.
Demo is the only blacksmith in the entire woodland. Although he doesn't have a good furnace, he is capable of forging a new beak for the big guy "Brokenbeak".
However, Liu Bei's ideas did not stop there. He also wanted to make a suit of iron armor for Duanhu, so he needed to discuss the details with Daimo.
Ansel, who wasn't interested in these things, had no choice but to come to Will, since everyone else in the woods had plenty of work to do!
