Chapter 84, Part 9: Empress You and Wu Ku
Chapter 84, Part 9: Empress You and Wu Ku
The middle-aged captain's words caused the other members' expressions to change, but none of them said anything.
"Don't worry, you'll be paid the same as before. You can go back now." Su Ming waved his hand, indicating that he didn't care whether they stayed or not.
After receiving Su Ming's consent, the middle-aged captain quickly thanked him, then carried his daughter on his back and led the rest of the hunter team back the way they came.
Their reaction is understandable. After witnessing the Bifang, how could seven mid-level mages possibly have the courage to continue? They even refused their reward and wanted to go back, which shows they were truly terrified.
The other mid-level mages weren't much better off, except for Green Bro, who was thick-skinned.
Wu Ku remained calm because he himself was an enigma, not a mid-level mage. Given his age and cultivation level, it was normal for him to remain calm.
Su Ming didn't react much because he knew in advance.
People like Mu Bai, Mu Qianjin, and Ge Xin were clearly terrified.
Ge Xin wanted to go back, but since Mu Qianjin wouldn't leave, she couldn't leave either. After all, she was a healing mage, and if she encountered demons outside, she would either die or be killed.
"The totem Bifang, what intoxicating power it possesses."
Su Ming looked at Wu Ku, who was completely absorbed in the moment. Since Bi Fang appeared, Wu Ku seemed to have changed. It was as if he had unleashed his true nature and personality.
"Mu Bai, we need to be careful from now on. Keep a close eye on Wu Ku," Su Ming whispered. Mu Bai nodded.
He didn't know if keeping an eye on Wu Ku would be of any use, but that was all he could do for the moment.
Su Ming then went to Mu Qianjin's side and asked her to keep an eye on Wu Ku and use the ice bow when necessary.
Su Ming's words immediately aroused Ge Xin's dissatisfaction, "Hey, do you know what the side effects of the Ice Bow are? How can you use this thing so casually? Do you know how much a thousand-gold will have to pay?"
"Seriously, it's only because Brother Qiannian isn't here, otherwise you would have died ten times over based on what you said."
Su Ming laughed. If Mu Qiannian were here, that would indeed be the case. Given his doting on Mu Qianjin, he wouldn't have enough lives to kill him.
"Xiao Xin, stop talking." Mu Qianjin gently stopped her. Su Ming didn't stay there and walked to the front.
After the hunter team left, only the six of them remained, and it was still unknown whether Wu Ku was a teammate.
They were genuinely afraid that Wu Pusa in the ancient capital would go mad, and they didn't know if they could withstand it.
"Let's go," Su Ming said, taking the lead and walking ahead.
Helan Mountain was still Helan Mountain; no demons could be seen there, and the journey was very safe. But it was precisely this that made them even more uneasy.
If demons appeared, that would be fine, at least it would mean this is a normal place, but if there aren't even any demons, that's very strange.
Extremely eerie, this is the Helan Mountains!
"A demon has arrived, and a powerful one at that." Wu Ku suddenly stepped forward, his gaze grave. He slowly said, "You all retreat first. I'll deal with this powerful demon. We need to catch it off guard."
Su Ming and the others did not object. They hid behind or in the trees, gazing in the direction Wu Ku was looking.
A light drizzle fell from the sky, refreshing the skin but giving off a strange, indescribable feeling. Mu Bai and Su Ming stayed together.
Upon noticing the rain, Su Ming used his spatial abilities to isolate it, while Mu Bai used his plant-based abilities to grow branches and block the rain.
Mu Qianjin below used her ice magic to form a thin layer of ice above her head, blocking the rain from falling on her and Ge Xin.
Green Brother took a look and realized that he could also use the wind system to block the rain, but he felt it was unnecessary and a complete waste of time.
He found a shady spot where there wasn't much rain to drip on him.
The air was cold and damp, and Wu Ku's spot was darker than the others.
Moreover, Su Ming was very familiar with this aura.
After the Nine Netherworlds?
Jiuyou has always been in Helan Mountain, so it's not surprising that she has appeared now. However, she shouldn't like to appear in front of people, so why was Wu Ku able to sense her?
Su Ming neither stopped Wu Ku nor reminded him.
It was better that Jiuyou arrived later. He had always been worried that Wu Ku would betray them, and they did not have enough strength.
Now that Jiuyou has arrived, it's a good opportunity to test Wu Ku's limits.
As for whether Jiuyou will lose, Su Ming is not worried at all. Just the fact that he entered the inner city of the ancient capital without being discovered shows how terrifyingly strong she is.
Even President Han Ji couldn't find her.
"What a powerful demon! Why would a ghost from the ancient capital come to this place?"
"Such powerful spiritual strength, could he be one of the eight fallen rulers?"
"Among the deceased rulers, there seems to be one who controls ghosts, I think her name is... Empress of the Nine Netherworlds?"
Wu Ku suddenly clasped his hands together, and a Buddhist rosary appeared on his body. A faint misty barrier appeared around his body, seemingly able to withstand any impact.
Unlike other demons, ghosts of the monarch level possess intelligence that surpasses that of humans.
"It's perfect timing that you're back from inside. I want to see what happened in there," Wu Ku murmured, preparing to capture Jiu You later to investigate the situation inside.
The matter involved Bi Fang, so even Wu Ku didn't dare to go in without permission. It was too dangerous inside, and Wu Ku was unsure of himself. He needed some useful information.
Splash splash ...
A torrential downpour began, turning the once bright sky gloomy, as if the heavens were weeping.
Wu Ku stood still, waiting for the arrival of the Nine Netherworld Queen.
The torrential rain roared, soaking Green Bro to the bone. Even if he wanted to use wind magic to shield himself from the rain, he couldn't; his wind magic wasn't strong enough for that.
The thin ice on Mu Qianjin's head was shattered, and she had to lean back and approach a thick tree.
Using ice magic, they created a giant lid above their heads, from which two more raindrops could be blocked from falling on them due to the wind changing direction.
Even so, their feet still got wet.
Mu Bai used ice-type magic on the plant-type vines to block the rain, while Su Ming increased the output of space-type magic energy to block the rain.
The scent was getting closer, but because of the rain, he couldn't perceive it more clearly. All he could know was that it was coming soon.
We arrived at the Nine Netherworlds.
Suddenly, a feeling arose in Su Ming's heart.
……
It's raining. Jiuyou found it strange. Why did it suddenly start raining when the weather was fine all along?
She hates rainy days the most, and this rain is very unusual; it doesn't seem to be falling normally, but rather like it's man-made.
Artificial rainmaking requires a certain level of magical skill.
This rain is more irritating than any other. After the Nine Netherworlds, a ghost, the rain doesn't touch her, but it does affect her senses.
This confirmed to Jiuyou that someone was targeting her.
