Chapter 914: Preparations for Departure and the New Worlds Guide
On this day, Garrett Nordmark endured six Permanency spells: Feather-fall Spell, Comprehend Languages, Detection Spell, Resistance Boost, Darkvision, and Reveal Invisibility.
He wanted to push through and complete the remaining two spells, but Archmage Byerbo unceremoniously sent him away:
"Get out, get out, get out! Come back tomorrow! The next two spells, Glibness for third-circle and Mindlink for fifth-circle! Go home, rest well, and meditate thoroughly! Both your body and mind need complete relaxation! If I find you in less than perfect condition, you'll have to find someone else to cast Permanency!"
"Yes~~~ I'll definitely listen to you, Senior Brother~~~"
Garrett laughed and ran out. Ah, having Senior Brothers and Sisters is great, having a strong sect is even better. Otherwise, if he wanted to get so many spells permanent at once, who knows how much money and time he would waste!
The two Archmages watched Garrett carry the kitten away quickly. Archmage Philby furrowed his brows lightly:
"Are we just going to let him go to the New World? Little Garrett is only level 9; if he goes deep inland, it might be dangerous!"
"He's a healer. Besides, you forget, the teacher mentioned once that he has the favor of the world's will." Senior Brother Byerbo's brow was also dark, but his cheeks tightened with a stern line:
"Moreover, our lineage can't avoid fighting forever. You, me, Carlisle, and those currently struggling in interplanar spaces, Koi and Luna, who hasn't rolled through battles and storms?"
"I'm going to prepare some equipment for him." Archmage Philby stood up and walked away:"You go talk to the Archmages that Cirilla brought out? Spread the word, they should know to send their thanks quickly and appropriately..."
Garrett was unaware of his Senior Brother and Sister's worries for him. Holding Mr. Troka, he returned to the Mage Tower and immediately had MOSS send a signal to summon all the members of the Mage Tower:
"Mage Lynn is in trouble in the New World." The mages and apprentices lined up in two rows from the Mage Tower's entrance steps all the way to the carriageway outside. Standing on the top step, Garrett faced the crowd and gently stroked the kitten's fur:
"Mr. Troka ran back desperately for help. After the teacher's examination, it's clear he has injured his essence. The enemy is obviously strong. I have decided to set off as soon as possible to rescue Mage Lynn."
"I'll go with you!"
Cirilla shouted without hesitation. Bernard remained silent, took two steps forward, and stood behind Garrett, clearly indicating:
Boss, wherever you go, I will follow!
In the place Bernard vacated, the big head of the Silver Moon Deer wavered, the antlers shimmering with silver light.
Garrett nodded to them in turn, smiling. Archmages Aurora and Norwood exchanged a glance and stepped forward. Garrett shook his head and raised his palm to them:
"Aurora, you cannot go. Mr. Troka has not yet woken up. We might venture deep into the New World, where the enemy is strong—if there is danger, I cannot protect you."
"I'm not afraid!"
Aurora shouted. Garrett's face darkened, showing rare sternness:
"This is an order! Aurora, stay in Nevis and oversee my Mage Tower—Mr. Norwood will assist you. If trouble arises, seek the teacher's help. You are the only one in the tower with the means to contact him."
Aurora reluctantly nodded with a heavy heart. Garrett then turned to Archmage Norwood and nodded:
"Please, Aurora lacks experience and may need your reminders."
"Alright." Archmage Norwood stepped out and nodded solemnly. Aware of his age, aptitude, and status, he did not feel any grievance assisting Aurora:
"Boss, I have compiled a list of materials you will need for the New World. The Mage Tower is urgently preparing and procuring them. The first batch is expected to be ready by tomorrow."
Garrett barely managed a smile. He then turned to Carlos and Anita, adopting a rare formal tone:
"Carlos, Anita, there's a question I haven't asked you before—would you like to be my disciples, learn my knowledge, and follow my path?"
A necromancer and a priestess of the God of Nature exchanged a glance. Five long years had turned their professional animosity into a camaraderie forged through shared battles.
After all, wearing the same lab coat, working in the same laboratory, following the same protocols—it was hard not to develop a mutual respect over time.
According to the order of questioning, Carlos stepped forward first. Once an apprentice mage, he had worked diligently in Garrett's Mage Tower and hospital for five years, advancing to a level 4 mage.
His progress was not fast, but Garrett had to admit that as the de facto executive dean of the hospital and head of the research institute, Carlos was truly invaluable.
Now, this executive dean placed his right hand on his chest and bowed deeply to Garrett:
"I am willing, teacher."
"I am also willing, teacher." Anita followed suit. She had already reached level 5 and excelled in traditional strengths of natural priests like nature affinity, communicating with plants and animals, even surpassing Garrett in some aspects...
Garrett thought with a touch of bitterness. He nodded solemnly to his two disciples:
"Good. From today, Leon Carlos, you are my first disciple in the mage field. You will oversee the Oak Grove Clinic, and I will add you as the second primary controller of the hospital's Mage Tower."
"Anita, you are my first disciple in the field of natural priesthood. You will be the vice dean of the Oak Grove Clinic and continue leading the research on penicillin, streptomycin, and related projects. I will allocate resources for you."
His gaze swept over the rest of the crowd. Among them were Mage Lynn's apprentices, Archmage Norwood's apprentices, and some who had gained favors to become apprentices in his Mage Tower but did not merit his recognition as disciples.
These individuals, if they did not achieve enough, might cling to formal mages, be dismissed after a few years, or resign on their own. Everyone had their own path.
Garrett decided not to think about them anymore. He motioned for his two disciples to stand behind him and cleared his throat:
"That's all for today. Thank you, everyone. Please continue to work hard and organize all the materials I need to take. Also, Archmage Norwood, please find a fast ship to the New World and an experienced guide."
He suddenly paused. In the distance, a bone carriage sped over and stopped at the Mage Tower's entrance. Archmage Edgar hurriedly descended in a black robe:
"Master Nordmark, I have found a guide for you—"
