Chapter 502 [Empire] Leisure
As we were the last group of students remaining outside the school, we were given a rare opportunity to "gain" half a day of free time.
It was like a small crack in the silence of a battlefield, giving us a moment to breathe. The sky remained gloomy, the cold wind tinged with the faintest flutter of snowflakes, yet we felt a sense of disorientation. This was a long-awaited moment of leisure, like a taut string suddenly relaxed, the blank time leaving one feeling somewhat lost.
Qianmo and I stood outside the makeshift tent, surrounded by the few students still outside the school. Most were engaged in their own activities, either sitting and resting or gathering in groups of three or four to chat. The atmosphere was remarkably tranquil and peaceful. This leisure time, once almost absent under the strict discipline of the military academy, suddenly made me feel a little unsure what to do.
"What do you want to do?" Qianmo asked softly, with a rare sense of ease and relaxation in his eyes. To be honest, at this special moment, this kind of freedom was so unfamiliar to us that everyone seemed a little restrained and cautious.
I glanced around, the corners of my mouth curling up slightly. "Maybe just a walk." I didn't give a more specific answer; the purpose wasn't that important. I just wanted to experience the long-lost quiet and leisure outside this military academy.
We walked slowly across the snow, the snow crunching beneath our feet as the wind gently lifted it, sending it drifting through the air. The air was chilly and slightly damp, a constant reminder that even for this brief respite, we were still trapped in this frozen world. The distant mountains were still blanketed in thick snow, and the sky hung low, like a heavy gray curtain, adding a sense of silence and oppression to the world.
I didn't say anything, looking down at the snow beneath my feet, leaving a few casual footprints. Qianmo didn't urge me, but just followed quietly beside me, his steps light and gentle. It seemed that at this moment, neither of us was in a hurry to do anything, just enjoying this brief blank space.
Not far away, several students were playing snowballs, their laughter echoing in the air, with a long-lost joy and ease. Looking at them, a smile involuntarily appeared on the corner of my mouth - this kind of pure ease seemed to have not happened for a long time.
"Do you remember the old days?" I suddenly asked, my voice a little low, but with a hint of nostalgia.
Qianmo was stunned for a moment, then smiled slightly, "Of course I remember." He stopped and looked into the distance, his eyes filled with a hint of warm memories. "But back then, it seemed like I didn't have so many responsibilities to worry about."
I nodded, my gaze still fixed on the group of playful students, a strange wave of melancholy welling up in my heart. Yes, those days seemed simpler now, but back then, I often felt unsatisfied, always feeling that nothing in life was good enough. Now, standing here, amidst all this, I can't help but long for those days without so much pressure.
"Let's go for a walk." Qianmo's voice broke my thoughts. He smiled slightly and pulled me forward.
We began to walk aimlessly across the empty snowfield, neither fast nor slow, occasionally stopping to look around, or just quietly feeling the tranquility of the vast expanse.
I spent this half-day of free time with no purpose or expectations. I simply savored a brief moment of relaxation, a long-lost sense of ease and freedom. Though the sky was gray and the cold still, the tranquility of this moment involuntarily brought a long-lost sense of comfort.
"Maybe," I turned to Qianmo and said with a smile, "This is what we need most right now."
He looked back at me, a soft glint in his eyes. "Maybe."
