Chapter 472 The Real Abyss (Part 1)

Chapter 472 The Real Abyss (Part 1)

"I'm sorry, I didn't study well when I was in the shelter..." Conan had no choice but to give himself the title of a bad student.

"Haha, then you bad student brother, you have to listen carefully now." The collector threw the colorful ball in his hand into the air. There was a pair of propellers on the top of the ball. They rotated gently to make the ball stay in the air and emit colorful light, creating an "inscrutable" atmosphere for the collector.

"Before the Great Disaster, human civilization flourished. Entertainment options like racing, music, and movies emerged in an endless stream. Thanks to technological advancements, the former metropolis of Night City gradually became a center of music and art."

"Unfortunately, a sudden disaster destroyed everything. It wasn't a volcano, an earthquake, a storm, or a tsunami. The mycelium simply erupted. No one knew where it came from, but it consumed all living things. Humanity was defeated in their fight against the mycelium, and ultimately had no choice but to retreat to shelters."

"After an unknown amount of time, a new type of virus spread. As if it was deliberately fighting the mycelial disease, it revitalized all living things until the wasteland was transformed into a green meadow."

"After a thousand years, most humans gained the ability to resist the mycelium through the new virus. Only then did we gradually walk onto the surface and begin to explore this drastically changed world."

"Okay, the history class is over, it's time to rest." The collector took the lantern back into his hand, used it as a pillow, and fell asleep.

Conan: Fell asleep in seconds? And this pillow doesn't look comfortable at all!

The cyborg nodded and looked at Conan: "It's getting late, get some rest."

The sentry climbed to the observation post on top of the giant and kept watch. The guide leaned against the archivist, yawned, and closed his eyes. The archivist put away his flute, glanced at Conan warily, and moved farther away, carrying the guide.

Conan: Why are you so wary of me?

However, it was getting dark, and Conan didn't want to investigate any further, so he found a relatively flat piece of grass and lay down. A firefly with a small light bulb on its tail was lying on a grass stem. The small light bulb flickered, making Conan fall into a drowsy sleep.

"So what does it feel like to dream in a dream?" Darren appeared in front of Conan again.

Conan was so frightened that he got up from the ground. There was no grass or members of the expedition team here. He was the only one sitting alone on the dark floor. Oh, and there was Darren sitting opposite him.

"Is this the future? I just heard Miss Gatherer mention 'car rally' and 'murmur in the dark'. Why do they look so similar to Oletus's abyssal research project?"

"Because the Abyss leaked from this world, we're simply exploiting it." Darren put his hands on his hips. "However, with your world's technology, if you were to touch the Abyss, you would surely die from a mass extinction. That's why Mother wants to show you the dangers of the Abyss."

"So, not only Sera and I, but others have also been affected by the witch's dream?"

"Well, but your two dreams are independent of theirs."

"So, the other person who entered the dream should be someone from the Black Organization."

"Yes, Mother wanted to warn them not to easily touch the unknown (to encourage them to commit suicide)."

"But I think that even though most things in this world have turned to wooden products, it's still thriving overall, isn't it? Humanity has begun to gradually emerge from the shelters. It may take a long time to rebuild civilization, but there is always hope."

"Hehe, it seems you still know nothing about the abyss. The abyss is not a panacea for saving lives."

Darren gave a meaningful smile and his figure slowly disappeared.

When Conan woke up from this dream within a dream, it was already morning.

"Good morning, everyone!" The collectors were full of energy. They held colorful balls and ran around the big guys on pulleys, just like they were doing morning exercises.

The prosthesis technician stopped her and said, "Last time, your pulley got stuck in a stone because you were running too fast and it almost broke. Remember to watch your step next time."

The sentry crouched on top of the giant to catch up on some sleep. The archivist came over with the guide. "We should be heading to the Green Waterway to restock our supplies today, right?"

"That's right, frog and fish soup and grilled salamander, here I come!" The collectors were very happy because there was plenty of food in the lush waterways, including some delicious protein.

Conan: Frogfish? I've never heard of it, but salamanders should be edible...

However, what Conan didn't expect was that the big guy could actually move on the water. He initially thought that such a mechanical structure would definitely get wet.

"Hey, don't be so surprised. This big thing is alive. It's not a self-propelled machine." The collector was holding a fishing rod and was about to cast the hook into the river.

The guide held up a blue, apple-sized shell and handed it to the archivist.

"This is a worm pupa! I think there should be aquatic creatures that like this kind of food." The archivist hung a worm pupa on a hook and threw it into the water.

"Uh, can you really catch fish like this?" Conan looked at the archiver's extremely unskilled hook-casting movements and expressed doubt about his level.

[Fool's Gold: Fishermen never go empty-handed, go for it!]

[Night Watchman: Speaking of which, where do these magical little creatures come from? I remember that the Abyss Eight Miles only has wooden creatures, right?]

[Novelist: There's water here. I asked Miss Nightingale to order some suitable ingredients from another world to add to the ecosystem. That world seems to be managed by megastructures and artificial intelligence. Recently, a small black creature has been running around, causing dimensional rifts.]

(Does anyone guess where this "world" is? *Gibberish giggles*)

"Look, there's a salamander!" The sentry raised his crossbow and aimed at the big white salamander crawling in the low bushes.

Conan estimated that the salamander was definitely more than two meters long, so they were going to roast this giant and eat it?

Before the sentry could make a move, however, a wooden sickle swung down at full speed, piercing the salamander's throat and pinning it to the ground.

"There are enemies! There are enemies!" The sentry's voice became sharper, and it sounded like he would lie on the ground pretending to be dead in the next second.

The man on the top of the tower pulled the sickle out of the ground and tilted his head to look at the sentry: "Wow, it's a complete team, quite a few people, are you here to replenish water and food?"

The stone man poked his head out from the bushes and saw the salamander trying to escape with its neck broken. He immediately hit it with a pickaxe, and the salamander's head was flattened. It lay on the ground, its limbs twitching for a while, and then it became motionless.

Seeing this, the man on the top of the tower and the stone man clapped their hands. "The hunt was a great success! We'll have meat to eat today!"

The stone man tilted his head in confusion, retracted his high-five hand, and pointed to his abdomen. Then the man at the top of the tower looked at the stone man's hollow belly and said, "Uh, sorry I forgot you can't eat normally. But it's okay, you can just watch me eat!"

[Fool's Gold: That's too bad.]

[Archer: These salamanders look so fat. Can we raise some on the estate?]

[Professor: I'll try to see if I can artificially breed them.]

[Lawyer: Don’t we have normal meals at the manor? Why are we eating salamanders?]

[Forward: Naib, come on over here! Kurt and I just grilled one! It smells amazing.]

[Mercenary: Here I come. (Chewing)]

[Lawyer: Is it really that delicious? (Eyes shifted)]
