Chapter 35 Urging
Chapter 35 Urging
The two had lived together for a period of time before getting married, which could be considered a trial period for their marriage.
Zhong Xiaoqin studied for a long time and finally passed her driver's test. Finally, for the first time legally driving, Zhong Xiaoqin and Chen Yu didn't invite Wang Wenwen along; instead, the two of them carefully started driving. Zhong Xiaoqin, who was naturally bad at driving, quickly fell out of the car, limp and flat like a cat.
Chen Yu stopped the car at the right time and hugged Zhong Xiaoqin in his arms. Zhong Xiaoqin was very upset because she hadn't achieved the expected results in this driving practice. She was so upset that she was trembling all over, so she needed Chen Yu to comfort her.
After the wedding, life returned to normal. It seemed that marriage was just an interlude in life, and once it was over, life would return to normal.
Zhong Xiaoqin continued to work in the company's finance department, while Chen Yu continued to conduct his project experiments.
Professor Huang is preparing to graduate Chen Yu's program and has asked him to choose any topic from his research as his thesis defense. Chen Yu readily agrees, intending to graduate quickly and then stay on as a faculty member so he can continue his research experiments.
Professor Huang was very happy, finally feeling that he was not alone in his pursuit of knowledge. "Chen Yu is a good kid, a promising talent for research," Professor Huang would say to everyone he met.
Chen Yu had Wang Wenwen open a new automation company, hiring some designers to undertake automation upgrades. For more complex projects, the school was entrusted with tackling the difficult parts, meaning Chen Yu was entrusted with solving them himself.
Three years have passed in a flash.
Over the past three years, Chen Yu's investment company has invested in more than a dozen companies, including major players like ByteDance (parent company of TikTok). Chen Yu will continue to invest in other promising companies; it's just a matter of talking to them, and others will naturally do the legwork to complete the investment tasks.
Chen Yu had also heard that Gu Jia's fireworks factory was doing very well, and he estimated that the two of them would soon be worth tens of millions.
Meanwhile, housing prices were steadily rising. Fortunately, Gu Jia and her companion had mortgaged the house; if they had sold it then and bought it back later, the returns would have been significantly lower.
Over the course of three years, Wang Wenwen managed Chen Yu's investment company exceptionally well, living up to Chen Yu's trust. Even Zhong Xiaoqin learned management skills in the finance department.
The three women don't get off work at the same time each day. Chen Yu's workplace is far from home, but fortunately, he finishes get off work early and is usually able to get home before the deadline. Zhong Xiaoqin and Wang Wenwen, on the other hand, usually return home together. Although both of them have driver's licenses, Zhong Xiaoqin isn't enthusiastic about driving, so Wang Wenwen usually drives them home, or a female driver arranged by the company picks them up.
As a senior manager in the company, Wang Wenwen was specially assigned a driver team and a secretariat. The driver team had a balanced gender ratio, with men and women making up half; while the entire secretariat was composed of women. Most of these drivers were retired military personnel, and their character had been rigorously screened, making them trustworthy. Generally, if Wang Wenwen or Zhong Xiaoqin needed transportation, a female driver would be responsible for picking them up and dropping them off. This was both convenient and safe, making them feel particularly at ease. Of course, the most important thing was to put Chen Yu at ease.
Before Zhong and Wang returned, Chen Yu would go to the fish room to enjoy the tranquility. While it didn't have the same intense atmosphere as the seaside, it was better than nothing. Although Chen Yu liked the calming feeling of the fish room, he didn't enjoy taking care of the little fish. He even discussed with the nanny about raising her pay so she could manage the fish room; if she didn't know how, she could learn, and the nanny would even pay for her tuition. The nanny naturally agreed; with the three of them away from home during the day, having something to do and getting paid was quite pleasant. Later, Zhong Xiaoqin and Wang Wenwen followed suit, each getting a pet. Zhong Xiaoqin got a white Ragdoll cat, and Wang Wenwen got a white Bichon Frise. Although Zhong Xiaoqin didn't like dogs, she could accept cute puppies, so Wang Wenwen didn't choose her favorite Golden Retriever, but instead chose an adorable Bichon Frise that resembled a Ragdoll cat.
While Chen Yu was still sitting and watching the fish, Zhong Xiaoqin and Wang Wenwen returned to Linjiang Immortal Mansion together. Zhong Xiaoqin glanced at the living room and, noticing Chen Yu's absence, knew he must be in the fish room.
"Brother Xiaoyu, you're looking at fish again?" Zhong Xiaoqin greeted Chen Yu in a sickeningly sweet voice.
"Xiaoqin, what's wrong with you today?" Chen Yu wasn't susceptible to being coquettish, because he usually dealt with Zhong Xiaoqin's problems before she even tried to be cute.
“It’s about Wenwen. She wanted to ask you when you could go back to your hometown. I told her during the New Year’s celebration today, ‘I’ll definitely get you two married this year.’” After a pause, Zhong Xiaoqin continued, seeing that Chen Yu didn’t seem to mind. “Now, October is almost over, and there’s still no progress on the wedding. I don’t want to break my promise! Can you help me?”
After three years, Zhong Xiaoqin had become quite the seasoned veteran and had long sensed something was amiss. Chen Yu was acting strangely, and she even lied to him about seeing a doctor. Only after the tests came back normal did Zhong Xiaoqin accept her fate. Wang Wenwen was her only comrade-in-arms, and they had developed a deep bond. Wang Wenwen was a good person; she could save her life in a critical moment!
Chen Yu didn't quite understand Zhong Xiaoqin's thoughts. Even among the three of them, it was impossible to completely empathize. "I originally planned to wait another year until I had a child before marrying Wenwen. You're very fertile, so I was thinking we could have a child within the next two years..."
Zhong Xiaoqin noticed something crucial: "I'm highly fertile? How did you know?"
Chen Yu knew he had said the wrong thing, so he could only make up a story: "I read in a book about face reading that your face indicates you are particularly good at getting pregnant." He spoke with such seriousness that he almost believed it himself.
Zhong Xiaoqin didn't press the matter further. She sensed that Chen Yu was hiding something, but she guessed that at most he had consulted experts in the field with her medical report and arrived at this conclusion, but was too embarrassed to tell her.
“Actually, whether or not you have children probably depends on fate! Gu Gu has been married for so long and still doesn’t have any children.” Zhong Xiaoqin then comforted Chen Yu. She felt that since Chen Yu had confirmed he was highly fertile, the problem was most likely with him. He could find time to go to the hospital for a checkup. She was also dissatisfied with the doctor who had examined Chen Yu before, thinking, ‘It’s clearly a problem; it’s been so long, how could there not be one? Not having children is proof of that!’
"Alright, since you can't wait any longer, why don't you go back to your hometown this weekend? You should go back to your parents' house too. Keep an eye on your father and don't let him know. Your father has a family history of heart disease, and the test results also indicate this risk. He can't handle too much stress." Chen Yu expressed his concern for Zhong Xiaoqin's father. If this incident triggers a heart attack, and something even worse happens, Zhong Xiaoqin will feel guilty forever and will never have peace of mind.
